Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Susan Lee Hindman on December 19, 2011:
My Dad who is LTC Edward Roy Hindman, Sr., USA, Retired, gave his whole heart and life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ before he passed into heaven which is our eternal home! He would have really liked this old classic spiritual hymn since it contains the phrase "Soldiers of the cross". Dad told me a story toward the end of his earthly life here that he attended two summers of vacation Bible School when he was in middle school in a town outside of Omaha, Nebraska. They may have sung this hymn there which was first sung in America in about 1825. I first learned this moving spiritual at my Presbyterian summer week long Bible camp that Dad and Mom drove my brother and me to in Port Deposit, Maryland for three years when I was ages 10 through 12. It was there that I received my first real solid exposure to the Bible, to teaching about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Christianity, and to beautiful Gospel music. This simple hymn is cited here for your edification and inspiration:
We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder
1. We are climbing Jacob's ladder, We are climbing Jacob's ladder, We are climbing Jacob's ladder, Soldiers of the cross.
2. Every round goes higher, higher, Every round goes higher, higher, Every round goes higher, higher, Soldiers of the cross.
3. Sinner, do you love my Jesus? Sinner, do you love my Jesus? Sinner, do you love my Jesus? Soldiers of the cross.
4. If you love Him, why not serve Him? If you love Him, why not serve Him? If you love Him, why not serve Him? Soldiers of the cross.
God bless you! Ephesians 2:8-10.
With much love in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the Messiah and the Savior of the whole world,
