Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Susan Lee Hindman on December 19, 2011:

Stand Up, Stand up for Jesus is a very great and vivacious military themed Christian hymn and is meaningful for the United States military Christian soldier and Officer who had enlisted in God's Army as a true believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the conquering King of all Kings and Lord of all Lords! The New Testament Book of The Revelation in Chapter 19 and verse 16 says, "And he (Jesus Christ) hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." My Dad LTC Edward Roy Hindman, Sr., USA, Retired, had before confessed Jesus Christ as his own personal Lord and Savior and is in heaven now singing the anthems and praises of God forevermore! This great classic Church hymn is especially memorable to all those who were Christians and took up arms in defense of our great country and bravely defended her righteous cause. The New Testament Book of Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 10 says, "For it became him (Jesus), for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings." This lively hymn is repeated here for your edification, exhortation and comfort.

Text: Mr. George Duffield, Jr., 1818-1888
Music: Mr. George J. Webb, 1803-1887

1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
ye soldiers of the cross;
lift high his royal banner,
it must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
his army shall he lead,
till every foe is vanquished,
and Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict,
in this his glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger,
and strength to strength oppose.

3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.

4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
this day the noise of battle,
the next the victor's song.
To those who vanquish evil
a crown of life shall be;
they with the King of Glory
shall reign eternally.

The New Testament Book of Ephesians chapter 6 and verses 11-18 says, "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints."

The Revelation chapter 11 and verse 15 says, "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever." Praise be to God forevermore!!! Hallelujah!!! Amen and Amen!!!
