Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Susan Lee Hindman on December 21, 2011:

Jesus Loves Me is the best known and beloved Christian hymn of all time. The lyrics were first written as a poem by Anna Bartlett Warner (August 31, 1827 -- January 22, 1915) which was contained in their jointly authored novel Say and Seal published in 1860 with her older sister Susan Bogert Warner (July 11, 1819 -- March 17, 1885). The novel depicts a little boy named Johnny Fox who is dying. Mr. John Linden is his Sunday School teacher who comforts him by taking the boy in his arms and rocking him, and makes up a little song: "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so ...." Mr. William Batchelder Bradbury (October 6, 1816 -- January 7, 1868) was a hymn writer who found the poem "Jesus Loves Me" in their book in 1862 and then composed the childlike music and added his own chorus. The former family home of Susan and Anna is maintained as a museum on Constitution Island on the Hudson River located right across from the United States Military Academy. The Warner sisters conducted Bible classes for cadets at West Point for forty years and both of them were buried with full military honors. Their uncle was a former Chaplain at West Point from 1828-1838. This classic simple hymn is dedicated here in honor of my Dad LTC Edward Roy Hindman, Sr., U.S. Army, Retired, who gave his whole life, heart, soul and spirit to the amazing and saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!!

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

Chorus:
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
Taking children on His knee,
Saying, "Let them come to Me."

Chorus

Jesus loves me when I'm good,
When I do the things I should,
Jesus loves me when I'm bad,
Though it makes Him very sad.

Chorus

Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
Wanting as a friend to give
Light and love to all who live.

Chorus

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven's gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

Chorus

Jesus loves me! Loves me still
Tho' I'm very weak and ill;
That I might from sin be free
Bled and died upon the tree.

Chorus

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.

Chorus

Jesus loves me! Loves me still
Though I'm very weak and ill;
From his shining throne on high
Comes to watch me where I lie.

Chorus

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
If I love him, when I die
He will take me home on high.

God loves you!!! Rejoice greatly!!!

Ephesians 2:8-9, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
