Be Thou At Peace
Posted by Susan Lee Hindman on December 24, 2014:
Dad went home to be with our most loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He escaped the corruption that is in this world with all of its sorrow, sin, sickness, suffering and pain. Dad stole away to glory land to live there forever and he is waiting and eager for his whole family to come up and join him. Dad stole away to true freedom and to eternal life in heaven with Jesus the King of kings and Lord of lords! Hallelujah!!!
Steal Away to Jesus is a classic American spiritual that was sung by a Virginia slave called Nat Turner as a signal with encoded language and double meaning to call and signal other slaves together into the woods during a storm to organize a secret rendevous and to discuss their escape plans for a slave revolt against their slave owners. This spiritual used secret communications with hidden messages to run away through a safe passage on the soul train on their journey to a better life to freedom up North. The lyrics of this spiritual are recorded below. Steal Away to Jesus
Steal away, steal away, steal away to Jesus Steal away, steal away home I ain't got long to stay here
My Lord, He calls me He calls me by the thunder The trumpet sounds within-a my soul I ain't got long to stay here
Green trees are bending Po' sinner stand a-trembling The trumpet sounds within-a my soul I ain't got long to stay here
Titus 2:11-15, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Ephesians 5:19-21, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves to one to another in the fear of God.
I Peter 1:18-21, Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
