Charles R. Lehner

West Point, 1949

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Charles R. Lehner IV on October 11, 2009:

Charles R. Lehner, Jr. was my father. He was a great role-model, although when I was younger, I missed his finer qualities because I was a rebellious young man whose opinions were in opposition to his. I have come to a realization that he was a better man than I.

Let me say, I miss him dearly. My sister, Lisa and I buried him in February in Arlington National Cemetery. I have been musing on my relationship with him and realize, now, how deeply he loved me, and I him. I cannot change the past and the stupid things I did that hurt him, But I will remember his influence and his great friends, many of whom I met at the reception after his moving funeral.

He is buried beside my mother, Karen R. Lehner in a beautiful resting place. I must end with a quote from Patton (George S.): "By perseverance, study, and eternal desire, any man can become great."

Dad, I love you, Chuck
