West Point, 1955

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Laurie Blitch Maccini on January 18, 2012:

West Point was such an important part of Dad's life and by association and practice, ours. We grew up knowing "How's the Cow", and "What is Leather." We could eat a square meal, sing "Alma Mater", "On Brave Old Army Team", and "Benny Havens, Oh."

Dad would make a bugle out of his hand and wake us up with a loud, long, enthusiastic rendition of reveille, and sometimes put us to bed with taps.

We played dress-up in his heavy grey coat, and marched around wearing his hat.

His class ring was always on his hand, joined only by his wedding band.

We knew about walking the yard, to cheer for Army, awful New York winters, lifelong friendships, and the Corps, and the Corps and the Corps.
