Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Carl H. McNair, Jr. on September 23, 2010:

It is with great sadness that I must report to the class the sudden and untimely death of our lifelong friend, classmate, and ISO, Bill Welter, following surgery yesterday to repair a torn left knee quad tendon injured while playing tennis the week before.

Bill had reported to us that he would enter the hospital for the surgery, but first had to get his coumadin level down. He was then operated on at Sentara Hospital in Williamsburg yesterday afternoon. Surgery appeared to go well and he was returned to his room. According to his daughter, Mary Peters, who informed me of Bill's death, he was in good spirits when he woke up, even talked about getting up, and then "crashed." He could not be revived and passed away about 7PM.

Dan Malone will be the LCA group leader, assisted by Doc Dorough, Chuck Ewing, Ted Livesay, Jim Ryan and Dan Ludwig.

Bill Welter was a loyal and dedicated classmate who served the class with indefatigable energy as our Information Systems Officer. He will be sorely missed by us all.

May he rest in eternal peace in the arms of the Almighty, as he has now answered his final roll call here with us.

In sympathy,

Grip Hands,

CARL
