Be Thou At Peace

Posted by James H Sewell on April 8, 2005:

Although I am sure that I first met Bob as a member of Co B-1, I have the feeling that I have known him for much longer. That was Bob's way: to make a gift of himself at first meeting. I have never seen him any way but cheerful, friendly and on the verge of sharing a grand joke with me. I lost contact with Bob after graduation, but we did meet briefly in Vietnam in 1968. As I recall he was on his way to the Vietnamese Military Academy in Dalat. I may be wrong about that but not about my own pleasure in seeing him. I truly feel that I have lost a brother. I think we must console ourselves with the knowledge that Bob is gone only from our sight. It is a diminishing of ourselves and not of Bob, for he is still there with his warm smile and the great joke he never quite shared with me.
