John was the first staff officer I met when I was assigned to the 1st AD in Augusta 1976. He was a LTC, Division G-3 and in front of his desk was a sign which read "We eat alligators here." I served with him for three years while he bcame 1st Brigade Commander and then Division Chief of Staff. I came to know that the sign was the truth. A good friend told me that when he was selected for BG he attended the General Officer's "charm" school. The first day he walked up to the group of attendees and said, "Hi. My name is John Kirk and they sent me here to teach you guys how to say F***!" That was John in a nutshell. |
