Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Kareem Moussa on July 31, 2011:

I am so sorry for your loss. Your father was a terrific man. When I first met Mr. Barlow, I clearly remember thinking he was one of the nicest patients I had met thus far in medical school. The patients on our service are often quite sick and do not like to be bothered early in the morning, but Mr. Barlow was always friendly and welcoming to me when I would come see him as early as 4 in the morning. He always answered all my questions and asked how I was doing. He was a very genuine, kind man. Mr. Barlow was not just a patient but a friend. I truly enjoyed speaking with him. I wish I could have spent more time with him. I could tell from my interactions with him that he loved his family, and that you all loved him as well. I am happy to know that he was able to spend his last days with the people he loved. Please know that Mr. Barlow was able to touch people like me who only knew him for a couple of weeks. I have learned things from Mr. Barlow that I will never find in textbooks. I can only imagine how much he meant to his family and friends. It is with much sincerity when I say that I feel privileged to have been on his medical team.
