Be Thou At Peace

Posted by David Kleb on December 26, 1999:

When I look back on my father's life, he was a man who had accomplished so much in such a short period of time. Through the eyes of a child he was the image of strength and success. People liked him, and he always knew what to do or say to come out of an ordeal smelling like a rose. Dad pushed himself to the limit with his career by doing what was asked of him and doing it well.

Last week as I went through his memorabilia with my Uncle George (USMA '59), I realized what an incredible mark dad had made on the Army throughout his career. The plaques, certificates, and diplomas he collected over the years could easily fill several rooms. I'm so proud of him for his service to our great country, of which he loved very much.

My father taught me many lessons as a youngster that I hope to pass on to my children. Unfortunately, they will only know their grandfather through stories told by both my brother and me. I would be so proud to have one of our children follow in dad's footsteps by attending West Point. He wouldn't be able to stop smiling in Heaven.

Many thanks to all of Dad's classmates who came to the funeral service to pay your respect. Your kind words were appreciated.

We will miss you dearly, Dad. Please rest in peace. I love you.
