Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Andrew (Andy) on September 6, 2004:

Jody was my step dad for 13 years and in my eyes still is to this day. He was not only the bread maker of the home but he was my male role model in life. He influenced my childhood decisions on what sport to play and who the best football team was (Miami) and that sort of thing. Its hard for me to swallow his passing. He honestly was the best man I've ever known and I've never respected anyone more than I respected him. Even after the split between him and my mother he still played an important role in my life. He used to take me away from my home when things got heated and take me out to eat. We watched a lot of football games together. He was my confidant. Anyone who can raise a child who's not their own deserves respect. Anyone who still raises a kid who's not their own when they are not even with that child's parent anymore deserves a shrine.

I was the last family member to ever see Jody alive and that night is deeply embedded in my mind. Jody gave me the nickname "Andy" when I was little and frankly, I hated it. Jody's the only person I ever let call me that name. I can't even begin to express my remorse and feeling of loss, but I know he is free now, and not a day goes by that I don't remember him. I am going into the Army as infantry shortly and I know he will watch over me. I hope to make him proud.
I love you Jody, you are never forgotten.
Andy
