Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Jim (Jungle) Squire on December 11, 2006:

Marty -- I cannot believe it has been a decade since we last met. I still remember how as Plebes we were awed by your courage to stand up for what was right; you were the only one that came to mind when we were asked who we wanted as our company Honor Representative. I guess so did the rest of the Corps when they voted to put you on Brigade Staff to represent the entire Corps.

Yet, it's not that Marty that I remember most. It's the guy who went camping with us when we needed to blow off steam as Yearlings and had no free weekends (camping was a freebie). Armed with nothing but a mostly-emptied bottle of Tequila around a campfire you could recite Shakespearian sonnets from memory, substituting words to describe folks (um, and certain Tactical Officers) in ways that I'd only appreciate when my thoughts cleared the next morning.

Marty, it's been a long time, but your quiet, self-assured air lasts forever with all who were touched with your humility, courage, and honesty. Thanks for being part of those special years we shared in B-4.
