Be Thou At Peace

| On occasion, when I go to the Twin Cities, I stop at Fort Snelling National Cemetery and walk the hallowed ground. I don't have any particular area that I walk because I am humbled just to be in the company of heroes from so many conflicts. While walking in a section where many from WW2 are laid to rest, I happened upon 1st Lt Goeke's headstone. I was struck by the fact that here before me was a young warrior who made a sacrifice that most will never even contemplate, much less understand. I returned home and looked for more information about this young man. Needless to say, reading about the short life of Christopher, and the testaments to all that he accomplished in so few years, renews my faith in God and and my Country. I can never repay you Christopher for what you did for me today, but it sounds like you had that affect on many people during your short time among us. |
