One of the most memorable times in my life was the thirty days in 1963 that John and I spent traversing Europe together after our month long Army Orientation Tour in Germany. John's father who was the CG of the 7th Army Artillery in Kaiserslautern, Germany, provided us with a VW Karmann Ghia convertible, some c-rations and gas vouchers and off we went. We drove north to Oslo, Norway and back through France and Spain before heading back to West Point. It was quite a month of adventure for two young West Point Cadets and we formed a lasting friendship. John was a unique and special human being and I will miss him. Joe Bob Lake '64 |
