| Don and I were in the same Beast Barracks' platoon. Like all New Cadets in that era, we suffered the same indignities of no or little food, and repeated harassment. Eventually, after a month or so, we lost so much weight, that we were assigned to "Diet tables," where the upperclassmen were told to let us eat. So we chowed down, and would "waddle" back to the barracks complaining of extended stomachs. Of course, shower formations would cure us of that. We re-united at the 50th reunion the first night, and relived our tales at the bar. He was a gallant and handsome cadet/soldier whom I shall always remember. |
