Be Thou At Peace

| I did not know Len well at West Point, we were in different Regiments and did not share any classes. However, we did share a common passion, competitive Alpine Skiing. Len and I were teammates on the West Point Team. I remember him as always serious and focused. In our senior year, I was fortunate to be the Team Captain. I cannot recall the specifics, but during our season that year Len was assigned to a chain of command position, perhaps Co or Bn Commander. He came to me and told me that he would not be available to compete most of that year because of his Cadet Leadership duties. That impressed me at the time and although his loss to the team was concerning, I appreciated his commitment to his responsibilities. I am confident that sense of duty carried with him throughout his life and career. |
