Garrison Charles Avery

West Point, 2004

Be Thou At Peace

Posted by Toby Jimenez '01 on February 19, 2006:

I was crushed to learn of Garrison Avery's passing. I was his platoon leader during Beast Barracks 2000. He stood out even then. When we marched into the mess hall, I used to go behind him and say, "Avery, I had better not beat you to your table." I never did. He was always one of the first to do everything. After Beast was over, he was the first member of the class of 2004 that I recognized (Aug 00). I periodically checked up on him during his plebe year. In August 2004, I ran into him at Fort Benning, GA, while he was in IOBC. We got together and talked about his West Point experience, and where he was going (FT Campbell). Periodically, I would ask friends of mine there how he was doing. They all replied he was an awesome PL.

And when our work is done,
Our course on Earth is run,
May it be said, "Well Done,
Be thou at peace."

Gary Avery, well done, be though at peace.
